There’s something truly special about a day spent in the countryside—where the air is fresh, the scenery is peaceful, and time seems to slow down. Our Residents recently had the pleasure of experiencing just that during a lovely trip to Trustee Peter Appleton's charming Primrose and Parkwood Farms in Arlington, a favourite destination for both Residents and friends.
The Farm Tour
The afternoon was nothing short of idyllic. Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by Peter Appleton himself, who has always made our visits to his farm something to look forward to. The farm, nestled in the heart of the Sussex countryside, is a picturesque haven that offers a glimpse into the beauty of farm life.
Primrose and Parkwood Farms are known for their dedication to sustainable agriculture and high-quality livestock care. Grass and forage maize are the farm's main crops, providing premium feed for the 450-cow dairy herd and 250 young stock throughout the winter months.
The highlight of the day was a leisurely trailer ride around the farm. As the trailer gently ambled through the expansive fields, Residents were treated to views of lush crops swaying in the breeze and beautiful cows and their calves. Peter gave a talk about the cows and crops as we rode through the farm.
Time for Tea
After the tour, the group gathered for a delightful afternoon tea and a little swing, set against the backdrop of the farm's rustic charm.
