You will not find any of the following at the Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes:

Marble staircases and automatic lifts.
All facilities for residents are on the ground floor.

Residents sitting in rows in highbacked chairs, staring into space.
Most of our residents are quite active.

A television always switched on.
There is a large screen in the lounge which is switched on only for planned events; films are screened regularly. Most residents have televisions with Freeview in their own rooms.

Blank walls to look at.
Every cottage has views of the gardens, and every room in the main building has a window overlooking the gardens.

Isolation.
The Homes work as a community, with many optional activities. Residents who wish to may stay in their rooms; it is their home and they may do as they like.

Frozen meals from outside caterers, reheated in a microwave.
Nearly all food is freshly prepared in our own kitchen.

A staff dining room.
Residents and members of staff share the same dining room.

Overworked staff.
There are nearly as many members of staff as there are residents, and many of them share residents' mealtimes and coffee breaks.

Frequent changes of staff who don't know who you are.
Most of our staff have been with us for a long time, some more than 15 years.

Unexpected extra charges.
All of our charges are listed in the table of fees. There are numerous free extras.
